Please see our 'How to apply' animation to understand the application process and the path to being offered a place on one of our courses.

No. We ensure that all applicants take part in a rigorous selection process designed to assess their suitability to train to teach. However, most successful applicants will have some in-school experience (i.e. employed or volunteering); higher-calibre candidates will probably have gained at least a few weeks of experience.

Applicants with no school or other relevant experience should consider whether they feel they will be able to meet the exacting requirements of the selection process or whether it would be better to seek some in-class experience prior to applying.

For a 'salaried' place, applicants should discuss their possible application with their school before applying.

Our programmes offer a combination of school-based and university-based training across the year.

University-based training is the delivery of our ambitious and research-driven curriculum in both seminar and lecture-style sessions held one day a week at The Education Exchange or a regional training venue. You will come together with your peers to learn and explore what the best available evidence is saying makes effective teaching and learning, and build and reflect upon your knowledge and understanding of teaching theory to apply to your school placements.

School-based training is divided into two contrasting placements, offering at least 120 days of school experience. You will work with a mentor and subject or phase leader to apply the curriculum learning to your school practice and build your craft as a classroom practitioner and professional within an education setting.

Our training calendar offers sustained periods of school experience, interwoven with curriculum training to ensure research and theory drives your practice and reflection and feedback are the engines of your development.
